Total: 30 min
Ingredients
For the batter
• 2 ripe bananas, mashed
• 1 egg
• ⅓ cup sugar or honey
• ¼ cup melted butter or coconut oil
• ½ cup milk
• 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• ½ tsp baking soda
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• Pinch of salt
• ½ cup chocolate chips
To top
• Extra chocolate chips optional
Instructions
- Prepare the batter base
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper for easy unmolding.
In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add the egg, sugar (or honey), melted butter, and milk. Whisk until the mixture is silky and well combined. - Combine the dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
Pour the dry mixture into the banana mixture. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix, this keeps the squares soft and tender. - Add the chocolate chips
Fold in chocolate chips, making sure they are evenly dispersed throughout the batter.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. - Bake to perfection
Sprinkle a handful of extra chocolate chips on top for a more gourmet finish.
Bake for 20–22 minutes, or until the surface is lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with moist crumbs. - Cool and cut
Let the squares cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes. Lift out using the parchment paper and cut into clean squares. They should be soft, fragrant, and moist. - Serve
Enjoy warm for maximum chocolate melt, or store for later, they stay soft and delicious for 3 days.
